Q&A with Merck Mercuriadis
Merck is what you might call a true trailblazer - and a music lover through and through. His passion for music and artists knows no bounds. He is the proud owner of a very special pair of Audiovector R 10 Arreté loudspeakers - serial number 001, no less.
But beyond the system itself, Merck is simply a terrific person: open, warm, and generous with his time. So when we reached out to ask if he would answer a few questions, his response was immediate: “Of course, whatever you need!”
Alongside the photo of his system below, we’re delighted to share his thoughts on the R 10s.
You already had a great system with the R 8s. What made you upgrade to the R 10s?
Integrity
I loved the R8s, but I knew that the integrity of Audiovector would never allow them to market a product that didn’t go significantly further to the great beyond, and take you closer to the music.
Like anything you truly love... if it’s possible to have more of it, you want more of it.
What improvements have the R 10s brought to your system?
Music as sustenance
Listening to music is spiritual for me. The key requirements for life are oxygen, water, food, love, music and faith.
When we listen to music, it’s not to be entertained - music as entertainment is a misconception. We listen to get the strength and sustenance we need to deal with whatever the Universe is going to bring next. That’s the case for most people, whether they can articulate it or not.
The R 10s just make that experience better, they take me closer to the source. They are pure fresh air without the smog. There is no dilution of anything.
Does owning S/N 001 make these speakers feel extra special?
Part of my life
I hope that getting 001 is, in some way, a reflection of my own contribution to the work of great songwriters, artists and producers.
I am so enamoured by how much closer to the music Audiovector speakers take me that the key point for me was not to be first, but rather that I could not wait to hear them and be a part of my life.
Have you had any comments from visitors, friends or family on how they look in the room?
A visceral experience
I am constantly playing vinyl at a very healthy volume, so when anyone walks in, they can’t help but be engaged and entranced.
When music you love is presented from the original analogue source on great gear, it goes from being something that you are merely listening to, to something you are a part of.
The R 10s are important in taking something from a listening experience to a pure visceral level of immersion.
